THE
PEOPLE
BEHIND
The people behind this project are Larry Burroughs,
Hunter Burroughs, and Darrell Smith. Their expertise as outlined individually
below allows each of them to use their own individual gifts and experience to
allow this project to become a success.
Larry Burroughs has lived in Hot Springs all
of his life. He has been a developer, site manager, and contractor for the last
40 years of his life. His building experience started when he was young working
on houses, eventually allowing him to develop several nice subdivisions in the
Hot Springs area. Prior to this current development, he was the site manager
for St. Joseph’s Hospital and Mercy Care System. He oversaw all construction
and eventually decided to move on after 16 years with the Mercy Care System.
Before working with St. Joseph’s Hospital, he constructed several multi-million
dollar projects around Hot Springs, and it was his experience with these
projects and working with the Mercy Care System that allowed him to understand
and implement the various types of structural improvements that we will have at
The Grand Oaks, including, but not limited to “sound-proofing” each individual
unit so each neighbor could live in peace. Larry has been on the Board of
Directors for churches in the area, and stays very active in the local church.
He sees a need in Hot Springs for a community where seniors can retire, but
continue to live in a lifestyle similar to that of a country club.
Hunter Burroughs is the Sales and Marketing
Director for the Grand Oaks and is also an owner. He brings several years of
sales experience to the Grand Oaks as well as several years meeting with seniors
and retirees exclusively. He has earned several awards to earmark his
achievements that include a 2004 Long Term Care Sales Champion award with
Bankers Life and Casualty. These awards prepared him for the Grand Oaks in
allowing him to research and understand the need for assisted living, how it
works, and sometimes even a way to avoid assisted living. He was the partner of
the year with New York Life Insurance Company in both 2005 and 2006. He was
also a Million Dollar Round Table member in 2004 and 2006. All of these
accomplishments have proven that Hunter is a creative marketer, and understands
the needs of marketing solely to seniors. To help him relate to seniors, he has
earned a CSA designation (Certified Senior Advisor), and works with senior
market everyday to help them enjoy the retirement they worked so hard to
achieve.
Darrell
Smith is the person behind all of our amenities and activities, and is
also an owner. He has spent his entire life working with seniors and before he
retired, was the Executive Director for the Area Agency on Aging for West
Central Arkansas. This position allowed him, in his everyday life, to listen to
seniors, and realize what exactly is important to them in retirement and
beyond. As part of this position, he was responsible for the report that was
done to assess rural elders and how they function in life. He was also the
chairman of the committee that developed the “Aging Arkansas” newspaper, and was
on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging twice with Governors White and
Clinton. In order for the Grand Oaks to secure the many opportunities outside
the community, such as golfing, and nature walking, Darrell has been very
involved in the community and his accolades include the community service award
for community counseling in Russellville and the community service award with
the Elk’s club of Hot Springs. Darrell is a graduate of Hendrix College, and
Southern Methodist University, and is a few hours short of a Doctoral degree.
